Disability worries

I think one of the things people don't get about having a disability is the safety concerns. From my experience, people normally tell me to be cautious about things that I can do safely but, don't realise what could be more dangerous. Take my PE class, for example, today we were playing long ball. I know I didn't have to join but I wanted to try and participate in the game. When my team was fielding, I avoided participating because I was terrified about if someone crashed into me, because I could fall to the ground, not be able to control my neck and then badly hurt my head. Afterwards, the kids in my class started blaming people including me for making our team lose.

This happens a lot, for example, in No Boundaries we had a day called the Wellbeing Carousell, and we had to do different well-being activities. Before the break, we had a "fun" tug-of-war tournament, I wanted to join the competition but it just wasn't safe. I told my PHE teacher that I didn't want to join, and she gave me a suggestion of pulling the rope from the side, it was a good suggestion but just wouldn't work. Whenever it comes to a sports competition the first thing that goes through my head is "What if I get pushed or pulled with a lot of force, can't control my head when it hits the ground, and hurt my head badly?".

It is hard having a disability not only because of the weakness but also because people don't know what it is like and how scary a simple "fun" competition could be.

By the way, my PE teacher is the best, she is very kind and supportive.
